MOSCOW (IQNA) – More than 70 works of art related to the Holy Quran were on show at the State Museum of the History of Religion in Saint Petersburg, Russia.

The Iranian Cultural Center in Russia put the Quranic artworks on display in an exhibition named, “Iranian Arts with an Emphasis on Verses of the Noble Quran”.

The Russian Ministry of Culture has cooperated in mounting the exhibition, which ran from September 13 to November 21.

Among the data-x-items on show were two Quranic carpets woven by two artists from the Islamic Arts University of Tabriz.  

Hundreds of visitors toured the expo, learning about genuine Islamic arts and the use of Quranic verses and concepts in creating them.

According to the director of the museum, the exhibition was received very well by Russian art enthusiasts and media.

At the opening ceremony of the exhibition, Russian orientalist and director of the Saint Petersburg Museum of Islamic Culture Efim Rezvan highlighted the great influence of the Iranian culture and civilization on the culture and arts in nearby civilizations.

He noted that this bond has been manifested in many arts including calligraphy, architecture and handicrafts.

The State Museum of the History of Religion in Saint Petersburg was created in 1932 by a decision of the Presidium of the Soviet Academy of Sciences.

It showcases more than 200,000 items, some of which dating back to the sixth millennium BC.
